UKRAINE

UKRAINE- This is the newest committee. We plan to sign in during 2003 a Sister Ctiy relationship with Vinnitsa. Our ongoing medical, cultural and religous exchanges with this city has generated many volunteers and an already active membership. We wil also sign a Friendship agreement with Krasnodon. Birmingham and Krasnodon have been linked through the USUkraine Foundation Community Partnership Program for 5 years. Extensive professional exchanges are involved with this relationship. We have also received a $20,000.00 grant from the Centers for Disease Controll to promote a Sister City and Friendship reltionship which will allow us to also promote the use of of micro nutrients in the diet as a way to preven thealth problems.

We were honored to host the Ukrainian Ambassador Oleh SHamshur Jan.
15-17,2007. We are working with the BCRI to have an exhibition on the
Golodomor (Ukrainian famine caused by Stalin's policies) next year and
also working with Ukraine 300 to establish links between their
children's health system and our Children's Hospital. He had a
wonderful reception with local Ukrainian nationals! From May 10-16, 2007 we hosted a delegation from Vinnitsia. They studied our methods of providing services to the homeless, drug addicted, handicapped and looked at animal control programs in the Birmingham. We also hosted a reception for the local Ukraine Community at the Botanical Garden that drew 60 people.
