Mission
Statement
The Birmingham Sister City Commission is a non-profit citizen group
dedicated to cultivating and promoting global cooperation, cultural
understanding, and economic development between the people of the
Birmingham metropolitan community and cities around the world.
Vision Statement
The Birmingham Sister City Commission leads the local movement
as the international liaison for community involvement and volunteer
action by motivating and empowering private citizens, municipal
officials and business leaders to conduct long-term programs of
mutual benefit.
What we value
We value cultural differences as reflected in our diverse Sister
City relationships and exchanges. We value how these international
partnerships expand our horizons as people and a community. We value
cultural and artistic exchanges that enhance our understanding of
other cultures. We value people to people and community to community
exchanges that enrich us through new business opportunities, educational
and enrichment projects as well our chance to share our community
with the world.
Our Friendship Cities
We also recognize "Friendship Cities". These cities are
either in countries where we have existing Sister City relationships
(SCI only allows one sister City per country); or recognize relationships
between groups in our community and communities in other nations.
China- Chao Yang district of Beijing. Huangshi in Hubei Province
(Sister Province to Alabama)
