The Birmingham Sister Cities Commission:
Ghana Committee sponsored six Birmingham area

high school students to Ghana, West Africa, in June 2011 as part of the
inaugural Birmingham-Winneba, Ghana Sister Cities global student
exchange trip on June 23- July 2, 2011.

The goal of this project was to educate students on the importance of
supporting antipollution initiatives, global cooperation and cultural
development between the students of the Birmingham metropolitan
community and communities in Ghana. This hands on global exchange with Ghanaian students will help develop effective leaders poised to address key social issues.

The 2011 class of leaders represent five different high schools in the
metropolitan area. The students are Tonisha Gallimore of Jackson-Olin
High School; Chandria McCurdy of Ramsay High School; Imani Anderson and Jillian Claire Hamilton of The Altamont School; Khrystena Bonner of Clay-Chalkville High School and Caitlin Thomas of Alabama School of Fine Arts.

When the leaders return they will share their experience with peers at
their respective schools, highlighting the education, cultural and
social components of their travels in Ghana. You can stay up to date on
