HUNGARY- Our Sister City Szekeshfehrevar is the 14th fastest growing economy in Europe. There have been several youth and artistic exchanges between the cities. Each year Birmingham Southern students spend a year teaching English at their local college. IN 2001 the City saluted Hungary during the International Festival. Sister Cities sponsored an art and artist exchange.

-In May Birmingham Jazz legend Eric Essix will be the guest of Szekeshfehrevar for a Music Festival. This is Eric's second trip for the event and we hosted Hungarian musicians last year for the music festival organized by Eric.
-Birmingham-Southern students are working at Kodalyani College.
-We sent a received Christmas/Holiday Cards from students at Sun Valley elementary to students in Szekeshfehrevar.
-In summer 2009, a Birmingham jazz instructor will be traveling to Szekeshfehrevar to work with high school musicians there during a one week cultural festival highlighting local talent in the visual and performing arts.
-Birmingham-Southern students are working there at Kodalyani College. Plans are being made for a major exchange this year with Szekeshfehrevar. The Committee is looking to do a youth exchange in 2008. We also hosted Ambassador Simony and his wife visited Birmingham May 26-28. He visited the Civil Rights Institute, Jazz Hall of Fame, American Village and 16 th Street Baptist Church.
